Fat Cat Elephants In Texas, Louisiana and Washington Oppose Immigration

Rep. Luis Gutierrez, Others Oppose HALT

The HALT Act is an ugly law written by the same conservative hacks who decry mom and apple pie. The law makers standing behind the HALT Act are the same generous souls including Rep. Lamar Smith (D-TX) who is the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and Sen. David Vittner, (R-LA) who oppose anyone who does not look just like them. Please notice, the guys who oppose the very foundation of our country, which is our diversity, are sure enough, ahem, Republicans.

That is really sad. After voting to grant every man who can squeak out a million bucks net income a break of an extra million dollars, these are the same guys who now bring us the bad news: Everyone who does not make a million bills a year must take it on the chin. For guys who are out-of-touch with US society, I have some news. The hardest hit will be the real small businessmen and the workers in our country.

The Republican Party used to be a party that supported freedom and the small businessman. While definitions change from time to time, this is nuts! Any one who thinks the average small businessman nets a million bucks is smoking too much Mary Jane. Since most businesses are lucky to net 20% on gross earnings, that means the small businessmen the Republicans gave the tax breaks to had to be making over 20 million a year! But I digress.

Here we have the billionaire boys club, fat as a well-fed elephant, playing politics with the lives of those who came to this country so they could put food on the table for their children. It is these hard workers who keep our food prices down and who provide a fair amount of the labor needed to operate the country. Since most of the overweight elephants have little desire to send their kids to the fields instead of to college, it is sheer mean thinking to exclude the next generation.

It is time we challenge the "traditional" notions about undocumented immigrants. First, most undocumented people don't work in the fields, though most people who work in the fields are undocumented. Second, none, I mean NONE, of the 911 terrorists came across the Southern border to the US. Third, the children of undocumented immigrants could provide a future for our country, just as the children of immigrants have provided a great past, if we let them stay.

In fact, it would not surprise me if one of these bright young people finds a cure for cancer or AIDS or "invents" the internet. You just never know. At the very least, immigrants will make up a critical part of the work force needed to keep an aging crop of baby boomers happy in their old folks homes and their mansions on the Rio Grande. (How about the Rio Bravo?)

One thing is for sure, you will hear the bellowing from the fat cats, or maybe fat elephants, when Americans get soaked for the cost of new technology. If we continue deporting the future of America, the patents for the cures or the processes or the new technology won't be filed in the US. Instead, after educating immigrant youth, and after deporting the people who could make great positive changes in our country, we will pay a hefty price as those same youths compete against us. The patents, the processes, the future of these young people will belong to a country that benefits from too much hot air from Washington, Texas and Louisiana.

Senator Luis Gutierrez and ten other law makers think it is time to quit deporting immigrants until Congress finds the backbone to fix our broken immigration system by passing Comprehensive Immigration Reform CIR.  They especially support a presidential order to cease deporting Dream Act eligible youths. These law makershey have written President Obama supporting the president and opposing the HALT Act (H.R. 2497). You can read their letter HERE.

Eye Resist Sends Carter and Astrid for Colorado Asset!

Carter y Astrid with

Listen as two well informed students talk to Tim Paynter and Manuel "El Rehy" about Colorado Asset to send the studentds of undocumented children to college!  These are some of the in-takes and out-takes!  Enjoy!

It is unfair to penalize the child of an undocumented worker just because they happen to be undocumented.  Most children were brought here when they were very young, some so young they don't remember making the trip!  To penalize them is to force children to pay the price for administrative violations which their parents may have done years before.  We don't hold people's children hostage in a civilized society!

But passage of Colorado SB 126 is even more important for the average tax payer because it will add to the bottom line of colleges.  When a similar law was passed in Texas, the net tuition fees for state schools increased by $17,000,000 dollars.  That is 17 million reasons why we should pass this critical legislation!

Astrid and Carter ask you to call your legislators and let them know what you think!

Thanks to Eye Resist and other organizations the youth of undoucmented immigrants might have a chance in Colorado!

What Is The GOP Thinking? Politicians Offend Hispanics

After the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson, Arizona, many people of both parties suggested the political rhetoric which may have fueled the immagination of a mentally ill man had gotten out of hand.  For a long time, there has been concern the natural battles between the parties would be misunderstood and someone might take matters into their own hands.

The Dream Army set up camp for weeks in the Arizona sun outside the office of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) who promised to support immigration reform.  After turning his back on the Dream Act, he refused to even meet with students.

The cold bodies of those who died in the Tucson attack were not even laid to rest in their graves before conservative Rush Limbaugh and the mega dittos crowd were on the attack.  Talk show hosts know how to make millions of dollars riling up the masses.  They are clueless when it comes to making peace.

It is sad to say, the racist rhetoric of the right is rising to a level of insanity.  One must wonder what the heck is going on with GOP leadership.  It is a well documented fact the Latino voting block will be the largest single voting block in the U.S. within 15 years.  With each new racist proclamation, Latinos are souring on the Grand Old Party in favor of more progressive and friendly leadership.

GOP leaders know this.  They also know the way to get their names in big print is to announce yet another anti-immigrant law.  After passage of Arizona SB 1070, the most vicious anti-immigrant law in the history of the U.S., some Arizona senators have acquired a fierce reputation with conservative voters.  They have also cost their state over $150 million in revenue due to boycotts over a four month period alone and millions of dollars in legal fees to defend laws they know have been declared unconstitutional.  None of that matters.  They are willing to sacrifice the best interests of the tax payers and the GOP itself in order to gain a little fame.

A racist slogan in Phoenix, Arizona, home to SB 1070

In the meantime, the GOP insisted on a tax cut that puts $139K in the pocket of every millionaire in the country.  The party wishes to deny the poorest of the poor basic education and health care while funneling millions to the super-rich.   They are not even doing it nicely.  Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-GA) mocked the Dream Activist after defeating a law that would allow immigrant youth to attend college and serve in the military.

In recent actions, Gov. Susana Martinez  (R-NM) announced she would advocate for the revocation of drivers liceneses issued to undocumented workers.  GOP leaders announced their plan to pass an Arizona SB 1070 style law in the Rocky Mountain State of Colorado.  Arizona rolled out a series of proposed laws aimed at denying children of undocumented workers the chance at education as well as measures to raise money to pay for the huge legal bills the state is incurring defending SB 1070.  Surprisingly, even Hollywood stars try to get in on the fame, including Steven Segal who allied himself with a hunt-for-Mexican party along with a GOP favorite, Maricopa County's Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

A child of an undocumented immigrant, brought to the US by his parents, seeks to serve in the Military.  Current law prohibits it.  The US wants to deport this youth who is willing to put his life on the line to defend freedom.

In the old days, the GOP was a pro business party.  Today, with conservative law makers at the helm, businessmen are losing their shirts with anti-Hispanic rhetoric.  While it works today, the strategy will lead to a dead end street for future GOP leaders.  Those who the party openly offends will not soon forget who turned their backs when the need was greatest.
